Today the New York Times ran almost an identical headline, "In House Races, More GOP Seats Look Vulnerable"  (read here).  Coincidence, a mild case of plagiarism, or just wishful thinking.  You decide.

This could change the politics of the immigration debate

I've maintained for a long time that comprehensive immigration reform (i.e. doing something about 'guest workers') would be a political mistake for the GOP, until we convince a big chunk of Americans the government is serious about border security. It looks too much like amnesty. It looks like President Bush is moving in that direction if Deborah Orin is right.  Read her piece here .

Tomorrow night could be a turning point in the immigration debate depending on how the President handles this.

Immigration  My prediction from over a month ago that immigration reform is dead.  But based on the events of the last week, I may have been premature.  Looks like a bill will get out of the Senate.  There's a long way to go before it reaches the President's desk. I still believe any kind of comprehensive reform could hurt Republicans in the 2006 elections.
